The female muse to male artist dynamic is ridden with dire sexual politics but it's where Giles Bourdos delves in this handsome Cannes competitor. Aging Impressionist painter Renoir is inspired by the sexy teen, Andrée. On leave from...
the war in 1915, his son  strikes up what would become an equally fruitful relationship with the girl, later his wife and leading lady. The imagery is majestic, there's plenty of atmosphere. the movie, like its subject, refuses to stir up unnecessary melodrama. There are many small conflicts and psychological undercurrents, but the closest thing to a narrative theme is the effect Andrée has on the Renoir household.
