Gustav Metzger: Lift Off! - Art

Opens: 24/05/2014 Closes: 31/08/2014 Kettle's Yard, Cambridge
Coining ‘auto-destructive art' in the 60s, Gustav Metzger also inspired Pete Townsend, his student at art school, to smash things up. A response to the violence of the 20th century (Metzger got out of Germany when a child, his Jewish parents didn't), and his activism, his work developed to include auto-creativity too. This includes a mesmeric liquid crystal environment from '65 and new interventions from the 88-year-old.
