New king of laneway street art at Regent Theatre

THE Lion King’s majesty over Melbourne has spread to the streets thanks to a gigantic canvas hanging in Flinders Lane.
The display of the 12.5m artwork at the back of Regent Theatre is the first time an artwork has been exhibited at the site.
Melbourne artist DVATE based the work on the character of Simba with extra inspiration coming from city landmarks such as Flinders St Station, Eureka Tower and the Regent, along with all the colours, sets and costumes of the city.
A Disney spokesman said Melbourne’s celebrated laneways and graffiti alleys made it a perfect site for the artwork.

Street art was also commissioned for the show’s Sydney and Brisbane seasons.
